Brief History: Stoneham was settled in 1645 and incorporated in 1725. Stoneham prospered during the industrial revolution in the shoe manufacturing industry. 

Area Info: Stoneham is located 10 miles north of Boston and is well-known for its small-town feel. A horn is sounded every day at 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, a tradition of the Stoneham Fire Station.

Historic Places & Cultural Places of Interest: Stone Zoo, Greater Boston Stage Company, Middlesex Fells Reservation 

Amenities: Open-air shopping is available at the Redstone Shopping Center. 

Parks and Recreation: Stoneham residents enjoy recreational opportunities at 9 parks and playgrounds, ice skating at Stoneham Arena, two 9-hole golf courses, swimming at Hall Memorial Pool, and hiking at Middlesex Fells Reservation. Spot Pond is a 298-acre body of water in the middle of Middlesex Fells Reservation. Swimming is not permitted, but boating and fishing are allowed (no private vessels). Sailboat rentals, kayak rentals, canoe rentals, rowboat rentals, and pedal boat rentals are available. Sailing lessons and kayaking lessons are offered. 

Public Transportation: The Town of Stoneham is served by the MBTA’s 132 bus route. Residents can take the bus to the Oak Grove subway station in neighboring Malden to access the northern terminus of the MBTA’s orange line. 

Education: Private NS-PK, NS-8, and PK-8 schools including Stoneham KinderCare, Greater Boston Academy, and St. Patrick Elementary School
